MLB Report 8/25

Thursday Recap:

Record: 1-0 (+1.00)

Reds / D'Backs First Five Under 4.5 (+100) Win

Nothing like cashing a first five under bet and having the first run scored in the seventh inning, eh? Not too shabby! Couple of top notch performances were put on display last night from Reds Pitcher Brandon Williamson (6.0 IP, 6 H, 0 ER) and Diamondbacks Pitcher Merrill Kelly (7.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER). Also, as we were hoping, both of these offenses appeared nonexistent and then some. Couldn't ask for anything better with that wager.

Let's hope we get as sweat-free of a bet for this evening.

Friday Preview:

10:10pm ET - Royals @ Mariners

Tonight's matchup appears to setup nicely for the red-hot Mariners and their young pitcher Bryce Miller.

Miller comes into this game with an 8-4 record, 3.78 ERA and a FIP of 3.88. Now his xFIP is at 4.38, however, perhaps he can overcome that based on his recent performances and the fact that they are facing the lowly Royals.

Over his last three starts, Miller has thrown 16.3 IP, allowing 12 hits and just 2 ER.

Despite Kansas City's bats actually heating up this month against right handed pitching (7th in wOBA & wRC+), I still believe Miller has created enough momentum over his recent outings to give Seattle a solid look tonight.

And offensively speaking, the Mariners should get more than a solid look against Royals Pitcher Brady Singer.

Singer has not been the most reliable starter this season: 8-9, 5.04 ERA, 4.24 xFIP, 4.41 SIERA. He's also been worse on the road (4.30 FIP) compared to home (3.90 FIP).

Singer did just face Seattle two starts ago, and it went fairly well for the righty. Singer went 7.1 IP, allowed two hits and two earned runs. I'd be shocked to see him limit this Mariners offense once again, especially considering Seattle is mauling RHP in the month of August:

3rd in wRC+ (133), 4th in wOBA (.356) and 5th in OPS (.824).

The advantages also lie in the relief for the home team. Seattle's bullpen ERA is 3.45, with a xFIP of 3.65 and Kansas City has a bullpen ERA of 5.15 with a xFIP of 4.64.

Factor all of those numbers in, along with the Mariners coming into tonight after an off day and a chance to make a move on the Rangers for a share of the division lead - it should be a strong effort from the boys.

Play: Mariners -1.5 (+118)
